Q&A with Tisha Dodge
on
Flex Mentoring
What
has been the most successful workplace flexibility practice in your
organization?
The majority
of my experience has been in establishing flex programs with other
businesses including flexible working hours, part time work sharing,
and telecommuting. The most success has come from providing individual
plans for key employees who are valued by the organization. My own
firm offers informal flexibility, which has allowed us to retain
employees.
What
motivated you to offer workplace flexibility to your employees and
how has the decision impacted your business?
In my experience,
a motivated employee is extremely valuable and difficult to replace.
The costs associated in finding a replacement and training a new
employee are often higher than finding a way to retain the employee
seeking flextime. Sometimes, companies also prefer the flex option
when a full time position is not needed.
Notable quote
regarding the value of participating as a mentor in the Flex Options
project.
Providing
legal advice regarding flex options promotes a positive work environment.
It is the most rewarding work that I can accomplish as a lawyer,
because it's a win-win situation for both the company and the employee.
Why are you
participating as a Flex-Options Mentor?
The Women's
Bureau requested that I participate as a Mentor, and I especially
enjoy helping other women start their progress toward success.
